Welcome to Academic Advising at JSU!

At Jackson State University, we are excited to guide you through your first steps as a Tiger! Whether you’re a first-time freshman or a transfer student, this page will help you navigate advising, registration, and important next steps.

All official communications will be sent to your JSU email. Be sure to set up your NetID to access campus systems.

Activate Your NetID & JSU Email

Follow these steps to meet with your advisor and register for classes:

Step 1: Complete the Pre-Advising Survey

Before meeting with an advisor, tell us about your academic background and goals.

Step 2: Schedule Your Advising Appointment in EAB Navigate

Keep an eye on your JSU email for an invitation from your advisor to schedule your appointment. Appointment windows will open in April 2025!

Open the email from your advisor and click the scheduling link.

Log into JSU Navigate.

Pick a date and time that works for you.

Types of Advisors at JSU

Student Success Advisors

For traditional freshmen and sophomores. These advisors help you develop a strong academic foundation, adjust to university life, and stay on track for graduation.

College Success Advisors

For traditional juniors and seniors. These advisors provide guidance on advanced academic goals, career planning, and preparing for life after graduation.

JSU Online Advisors

For students enrolled in online programs. These advisors assist with navigating the online learning environment, course registration, and academic success for online students.

Athletic Advisors

All student-athletes have specialized advisors who understand the balance between academics and sports. These advisors help you stay academically eligible and on track with your educational goals.

First-Time Freshmen:

Be sure to submit your immunization records before classes begin.

Prepare for your advising session by reviewing your degree map or course options.

Transfer Students:

Submit all official transcripts to the Office of Admissions for accurate course placement.

Work with your advisor to ensure all eligible credits transfer correctly.

Transcripts Submission Tip:

Please submit your FINAL transcripts to [email protected] or upload them directly to your Future Tiger Portal.
